Anthem of the Seas – the pre-inaugural trip…

We have had some amazing opportunities given to us through this blog.  One of which was sailing on this beauty.  The Royal Caribbean’s lastest cruise ship – The Anthem of the Seas.  I have never been on a cruise before, had no idea what to expect, least of all what we would do with the boys on board.  Our excitement and anticipation was ten fold!

As we drove into Portsmouth, we could see this gorgeous ship in the distance, excitement hit an all time high as we approached.  White, sleek, 16 decks high it was a beautiful sight in the early April sunshine.

We boarded with ease and in minutes were standing on our state room balcony, looking out over the Solent to the tiny boats below.  The room was comfortable, spacious and had that all important sea view.  We quickly unpacked, and set out to explore.  With just 2 nights and 1 whole day to experience the wonders of this ship, we wanted to do everything!

The Anthem of the Seas is equipped with the latest hi-tech gadgetry, from the bionic bar (robots making cocktails) to the awesome lighting in the stage shows to downloading an on-ship app on your phone, which meant we were informed of the days events by a click of a button.

Making the most of the unseasonally fabulous weather, we swam in the many pools (of which there are four), lounged in the whirlpools and drank cocktails on deck.

I wish I had bought my gym clothes, as the on-ship gym was fantastic, and the running deck on deck 15 had views to die for.  Twice round the track was 1k.

There was so much to do to keep us entertained, we felt we could dip in and out of activities or spend a few hours by the pool relaxing. The whole experience was up to us.

One of my highlights was going up in the North Star.  A glass bowl observation station, that raised us up above the ship to a staggering height.  Looking down we could see the English Channel all around us and the beautiful ship laid out below.dodgems ice cream

The boys were in heaven.  From swimming, the wave machine, self-serve ice-cream and coca-cola on tap to dodgem cars and X-box games.  They LOVED the whole experience.

In the evening, we dined in one of the many delicious restaurants, eating fabulous food from around the world. Charlie tried crab for the first time, and we delighted in the views and friendly waiting staff.

We packed in what seemed like a weeks holiday into a weekend!  The whole experience was gloriously epic, and something we shall never forget!

We were invited to attend the pre-inaugural press trip of the Anthem of the Seas.
