Simple Living // Lighting up dismal dark days…

Littlegreenshed Blog - Dartington CrystalMy god it is dark and cold.  Where on earth has the sunshine gone from yesterday.  It has rained non-stop here all day.  I find I am at my most productive on gloomy days, I light the candles, snuggle up under a blanket and sit at my desk bashing away at work.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like days like this, I would much prefer blue skies and sun, but when the weather is ghastly I relish the chance to hibernate at home and work solidly without interruption.

To get me through it, I have to have candles lit.  Everywhere.  Their golden glow and gentle scent fill the room and help me to feel relaxed and focus on my tasks ahead.

My dining room area is where I have my desk, right next to the fireplace (log store).  Before settling down to writing and planning, I light the candlesticks on the mantel.  Pure beeswax candles not only look and smell good, but the natural oils actually purify the air and burn cleanly (no black petrochemical smoke).

The two central candlesticks are from Dartington Crystal, tall and slender these delicate candlesticks are perfect for this space, adding a sense of drama to the room or dining table at supper.  The two smaller glass candlesticks one in a teal blue was found at a car boot sale and the other in a greenish blue glass was bought at the Foodie Bugle in Bath.

So this is how you will find me, on dark February days. Tapping away at my laptop by candlelight – romantic? Could be?  For a second, before I dash off on the school run in the pouring rain.
