The Chapel House in Penzance, Cornwall is a world away from the tired old B&B’s that line the seafront. No, quite the opposite – it is so beautiful, decorated in cool soothing colours and art work displayed from the Newlyn School of Art.
It is a perfect place to get away from the bustle of everyday life, to relax in a beautiful surroundings and discover the ‘hidden’ Penzance.
The light in this part of the world is famous, marvelled by artists and used to it’s best advantage to create their beautiful pieces. Chapel House has works of art displayed from the nearby Newlyn Art School, an ever changing gallery of work that can be bought during your visit. I wish I had a big bundle of cash to spend, because I fell in love with so many pieces.
Our room was on the top floor, one of three, that make up the old servants quarters. Beautifully renovated with a glass atrium roof and views of the Church and the curve of the Penzance bay beyond. The room was simply furnished, with a large king sized bed, soft fluffy bedding, a walk in shower room and best of all a sea view, with views across the bay to St Michael’s Mount in the distance.
Both mornings we woke early and was treated to a delicious home cooked breakfast by our host, Susan. Gathering around the large dining table we chatted to the other guests about our lives, what our plans were for the day and more. A leisurely and enjoyable start to the day, accompanied by great eggs and coffee.
Susan also provides an evening meal upon request, which I heard (from the other guests) was utterly delicious – I wish we ate there now!
Our stay at The Chapel House was wonderful. We discovered a side of Penzance we never knew existed, one full of interest, fabulous art, quirky shops and breathtaking walks. If you are looking for a little getaway, out of season is best, I would highly recommend it. There is so much to do in Cornwall other than sitting on a beach – you must go and discover it.
More on what we discovered in the area in my next post!

Collaboration Note: Thank you to Susan for wonderful weekend in your beautiful home. We couldn’t have loved it more! We shall be back. All words thoughts and images are my own.
