Birthday treat | The Ethicurean…

Yesterday was my birthday. And, for once, the sun shone!  Such a gloriously hot day, Dan and I headed out to Wrington, just outside of Bristol, to the Ethicurean.  A gorgeous award winning restaurant set in a stunning walled garden.

I adore The Ethicurean. The restaurant is set inside the old walled garden greenhouses, and creates shop stopping meals from the produce in the garden and from South West producers.

After a wander around the gardens, marvelling at the rows of vegetables and trees laden with fruits, Dan and I settled down to a gin and tonic in the greenhouse.

The menu changes daily, with whatever is in season from the garden.  I chose to go vegetarian, and had a beautiful dish of pea & lovage mousse with ewes curd, whilst Dan opted for a chilled courgette soup.

Such freshness on a hot day.  I adore anything that has broad beans in, I’m a bit of an addict at the moment.

For our main course, Dan chose duck with roasted beetroot and broccoli, and I chose grilled aubergine with walnuts.  Again, out of this world on taste and vibrancy.

I had the best time, just relaxing, chatting with Dan and eating delicious food.  Although we always seem to either talk about the kids or work when we do go out… does anyone else do that? ugh.

After lunch, we wandered back through the garden to the little honesty shop selling produce, and I treated myself to a bunch of dahlias and antirrhinums.  It is was my birthday after all!
