Dimpsey Glamping, Somerset

Award winning, Dimpsey Glamping is not just any old shepherds hut on a working farm, no, it is a shepherds with added extras.  Beautiful interior with charming pictures of the local area, mix matched vintage crockery and thick blankets and sheepskins to snuggle up with.  It is also the first shepherds hut I’ve stayed in to have a kitchenette, and wait for it – an en-suite!

Yep – The Dimpsey has it all; beautiful quirky vintage interior, with an en-suite shower room and FLUSHING LOO! Not only that it has enough room for a family of four, with the bench turning into bunk beds.

Outside, with a view of the sheep grazing in the field, there is a pizza oven, AND a wood fired hot tub.  So perhaps you should think twice about taking the kids, and go as a couple.

With the Blackdown Hills to explore, plus the farm and fields surrounding, pub round the corner, what more do you need?

Wild Meadow Cottage, Wales

Hand built by Jonathan and Andrea, the cabin is a testament to their love of this part of the world. Beautifully crafted from wood, and sympathetically built with an emphasis on living lightly on the land the cabin has eco creditials and then some!  Wood clad on the outside and white washed lime rendered interior walls the cabin is a triumph.

Inside the space is comfortably furnished with a open plan downstairs.  Two large sofas sit around a log burner with views through the windows of the meadow and the hills in the distance.  The kitchen has all you need, perfect for self catering.  I cooked a beef casserole in the oven and we also had pizza, but if you fancy eating out, Andrea will have some suggestions on where is good locally.

In the surrounding area is the pretty village of Presteign, with it’s vibrant art scene.  Also plenty of wild walks in the nearby forests and hikes to waterfalls.  Wild Meadow is a great base to explore the Welsh borders.

Harp Cottage, Wales

Harp Cottage has been lovingly decorated by owner, Justine, with gorgeous tones of Farrow & Ball whites, vintage finds and French brocante.  It is utterly beautiful, in a pared back, France meets Wales kind of way.  And that kitchen, is an instagrammers dream – hello!

In the dining room you will find a cupboard which houses items to purchase, the majority of which Justine sources from her many trips to France. I bought a beautiful white ceramic bowl and spoon set from Beanpole Ceramics.  But to be honest, I could have bought everything!

The cottage sleeps five in 3 bedrooms, and each and every room has gorgeous french linen, and vintage lamps and furniture.

Harp Cottage is a gentle, beautiful cottage to retreat to and immerse yourself in Welsh rural life.

The Chicken Shed, Monmouthshire

Just a short 45 minute drive from home, we were stood outside the cedar clad building staring across the valley in front.  Heaven.  Sue, the owner, showed us round and we could tell that this build was a labour of love for her.  Two years in the making this beautiful space was once a rusted out, run down chicken coop.  After a long building ‘journey’, the space now looks like this, above. Amazing right?

I think we all sighed and skipped around the place, even the boys!  We had mentally moved in, within minutes of walking into the door.  Sue shared with us how everything worked, like the space aged cooker and state of the art dishwasher, right down to how to use the fire pit outside.
