Travel | Camping in Europe this Summer…

Have you planned and booked your summer holiday yet?  Sadly, we haven’t.  A huge tax bill in January left us reeling and penniless, so no, booking two weeks somewhere hot, was not on the agenda.

In a bid to save money & get a holiday, I mentioned to Dan, that this summer I wouldn’t mind camping. He gave me a ‘look’ knowing full well, that camping any longer than a weekend would see me booking a ticket home.

Determined to prove him wrong, I started looking at campsites in Europe, and discovered there is more to camping than a tent in a field in Wales, (don’t get me wrong, Wales is beautiful, but I want sunshine guaranteed).

Yelloh! Village

Yelloh! Village was created in June 2000. It is composed of a big network of camp-villages and it became THE luxury outdoor hotels reference in France, Spain and Portugal.  A new way to do camping!

Dubbed as an outdoor hotel these beautiful campsites offer a range of accommodation from yurts, waterside cabins, modern chalets or pitches to bring your own… all with 4 or 5* facilities.

Look at that pool. You would be mistaken to think it was part of a boutique hotel somewhere in the med, but this is part of one of the Yelloh! Village campsites in the South of France.  Grown up eh?  And yes those are hot tubs there.

Europe’s finest open-air hotels

“Each of the campsites are unique, due to their settings as well as to their aquatic areas and the activities available, all of them are subject to quality requirements and criteria.  With countryside everywhere, together with architecture designed to fit the environment, water in all its forms, amazing and top-notch comfort, warm and thoroughly professional service, activities for young and old alike, practical and accessible facilities and more, these are the values held dear by our Yelloh! Village and are what make them the finest open-air hotels!”

The photos I’m sharing are from the Le Soleil Vivarais campsite, set on the banks of the Ardèche river in Southern France.

“Within 12 hectares of greenery, Camping Le Soleil Vivarais is a magical place, where you can enjoy your holiday at your own pace. You’ll be very close to the spectacular Vallon-Pont-d’Arc natural stone arch!

Two heated aquatic areas, water slides, a balneotherapy space, activities throughout the season and premium accommodation, not to mention direct access to the river for a swim or a canoe trip: everything is here to make your camping holiday in the Ardèche a memorable experience.”

I can see my boys paddling a canoe up and down that river.  Charlie is taking his grade 2 Kayak exam this Spring, he’s quite a dab hand with the paddle.

So, what do you think?  Camping in France this year?  Have you ever camped in Europe?  Did you last longer than 2 nights?  Do let me know in the comments below.

  • We’ve camped in France for the last 4 years and back again this July. I love it and was never a camper before! We go to Ile De Re and stay in a canvas lodge, basic, no bathroom and a small kitchen but love it for that! The kids love it so much. You’ll have a great time if you do it.
