When we were in Cornwall last month, we popped over to the next beach, Watergate Bay, to visit the newly opened bar; Watchful Mary.
I knew this place would tick so many of my interior boxes. Full of modern rustic cabin vibes – I’ve coined the term – SO CAL meets NO CORN (Southern California meets North Cornwall). And the term fits. Stepping into the bar, I was hit with wall to wall design. Wood clad ceiling with a wavy raw edge to emulate the rivulets in the sand left by the tide. Black walls, low slung seating, plants everywhere! Oh my this bar has it all.
Small nooks are dotted around the space, all facing one direction – the sea. Yes the interior of Watchful Mary is to die for, but the view is even better. Watchful Mary is situated right on the seafront, with uninterrupted views of Watergate Bay beach and the sea.
A large deck area, wraps around one side of the bar, so you can choose to sit inside or out. We luckily found a seat on the deck, and spent ages watching holiday makers play. Laughing at the dogs racing around and digging holes, and spotting boats on the horizon.
As it was mid-morning when we were there, we sat and enjoyed coffee and pastries. Such amazing cinnamon buns. I’d highly recommend them if you go.
With the decor, views and pastries, Watchful Mary is high on my list to visit again. Next time, I’m lounging there in the evening, with a sundowner listening to the resident DJ.
