Simple Interiors | How to create a mini bar at home…

This time of year we like to set up a home bar, especially if we have friends popping to toast the festive season.  It doesn’t need to be fancy, no need to dash out and buy a special bar cart, you can easily pop it on top a cabinet or sideboard you may already have at home.

One thing to bare in mind, is if you have young children, please place this bar area out of their reach. I’m sure they won’t want to drink anything, but glasses could get broken.  So it’s better safe than sorry.

So what key elements make up a brilliant mini bar in your home….

Seasonal Rituals | Christmas Eve supper with friends…

This Christmas Eve, we are celebrating with a few of our dear friends. A chance to chat over a special meal, drink a cocktail or two and swap gifts.  Christmas Eve needs to be a special affair, but a light one, nothing too heavy to digest as we have a huge feast coming up the following day. A couple of our friends are vegetarian, so this means forgoing our usual fish pie for supper, so in search of something suitable

Recipe // festive boozy mince meat…

After posting this image on Instagram this morning, I was asked by several of you for the recipe.  It’s really really simple, and makes about five jars, which is ample if your family has a slight mince pie addiction like mine.  If you pot the mixture up in pretty jam jars, they make great edible gifts too. I have searched for a recipe which doesn’t contain suet, so this is perfect for vegetarians and vegans. Also it is gluten free

Seasonal Rituals | Oh Christmas tree, with Balsam Hill…

Oh Christmas tree Oh Christmas tree How beautiful are your branches… It goes something like that, I think.  Anyway, yes I know it’s early but I couldn’t wait to share with you my Christmas tree for this year.  This season we have gone for a monochrome look with white and glass baubles, white stars and white feathers.  With a little touch of gold with gold dipped white feathers and gold chocolate mice.

Seasonal Rituals | Advent calendar…

This year time has slipped away from me :( and I haven’t been able to make the boys an Advent Calendar.  But I’m not going to sweat it, my boys have lots of great things lined up in the next month, so not having a ‘handmade’ advent calendar isn’t going to be a disaster. In fact, letting that pressure off myself has made me feel so much better.  Honestly, as a woman and a mother we have enough bloody guilt

Seasonal Rituals // Christmas with Ikea…

Last summer I was invited to preview the IKEA winter decor range. It felt wonderfully weird to be viewing Christmas decorations in the middle of flaming June, but I couldn’t help to feel a little giddy with Christmas excitement at the sight of a sparkling tree. The space, in central London, was bedecked with candle light and baubles, with a table laid ready for a Christmas feast.  During the event we were treated to a decorating masterclass, sharing some valuable

Travel // Artist Residence, Oxfordshire…

Last Friday, we left the boys with their Grandparents and travelled to the Cotswolds for an overnight treat at the newly opened Artist Residence hotel.  Passing through honey coloured villages in the traditional Cotswold stone we reached the village of South Leigh, Oxfordshire. The hotel is small and cosy, situated in a thatched country pub.  With only 5 rooms in total, you really feel like you are hiding away from the world at a country retreat.  Surrounded by countryside for
