It was June, and the world smelled of roses. The sunshine was like powdered gold over the grassy hillside.
~ Maud Hart Lovelace, Betsy-Tacy and Tib, 1941

The world does indeed smell like roses. Just stepping into my small back yard, the smell of the rose in my neighbours garden is intoxicating.  Drunk bees and June bugs fly messily around, buzzing and bumping to everything.  The tall spikes of lupins and foxgloves are like high rise juice bars, full of nectar.

Mid-summer is fast approaching, and the longest day deserves to be marked with a celebration.  Solstice falls on Saturday this year, and what better to way to mark it than to have a mid-summer feast followed by a large bonfire. I am thinking camping, beach side.  Watching the sunset close to mid-night.

With the turning of Mid-Summer, there is always a slight pang of dread. Even though we are slap bang in the middle of summer, there is always the knowledge that the days are getting progressively shorter, as we approach the slow wind down to winter.

But I can't think about this now... for now I shall enjoy the roses, plan more adventures, and drink pink rose wine in the sun...
