Finally! We have found time to go and choose our Christmas tree. One of my favourite rituals of the year, selecting our tree from the fields and then chopping it down. I know I posted about an artificial tree a few weeks ago, but I really missed the smell of a real one, so I passed that tree onto my in laws as a gift, and we went back to our usual Christmas tradition. Gladly…
I know I bang on about Seasonal Rituals a lot here on Littlegreenshed. My rituals are important to me. But when I say rituals I don’t necessary mean a voodoo witchcraft ritual, instead more about the little routines that are done year after, forming markers in the yearly calendar. Something to look forward to, to enjoy at a relaxed paced. One of these rituals is gathering greenery for the house. I love to have ivy and fir decorating the mantle
This time of year we like to set up a home bar, especially if we have friends popping to toast the festive season. It doesn’t need to be fancy, no need to dash out and buy a special bar cart, you can easily pop it on top a cabinet or sideboard you may already have at home. One thing to bare in mind, is if you have young children, please place this bar area out of their reach. I’m sure
This Christmas Eve, we are celebrating with a few of our dear friends. A chance to chat over a special meal, drink a cocktail or two and swap gifts. Christmas Eve needs to be a special affair, but a light one, nothing too heavy to digest as we have a huge feast coming up the following day. A couple of our friends are vegetarian, so this means forgoing our usual fish pie for supper, so in search of something suitable
After posting this image on Instagram this morning, I was asked by several of you for the recipe. It’s really really simple, and makes about five jars, which is ample if your family has a slight mince pie addiction like mine. If you pot the mixture up in pretty jam jars, they make great edible gifts too. I have searched for a recipe which doesn’t contain suet, so this is perfect for vegetarians and vegans. Also it is gluten free
Oh Christmas tree Oh Christmas tree How beautiful are your branches… It goes something like that, I think. Anyway, yes I know it’s early but I couldn’t wait to share with you my Christmas tree for this year. This season we have gone for a monochrome look with white and glass baubles, white stars and white feathers. With a little touch of gold with gold dipped white feathers and gold chocolate mice.
Gifting season is upon us! I’m busy curating my annual gift guides full of thoughtful gifts from our favourite makers and indie shops, plus a handful of cool tech gifts from larger brands. But I thought I would start off this festive season with my a gift wrapping post. To me Christmas gift wrap doesn’t need to be all about traditional colours of red or gold, but instead use what you have and have fun. This year I have chosen
This year time has slipped away from me :( and I haven’t been able to make the boys an Advent Calendar. But I’m not going to sweat it, my boys have lots of great things lined up in the next month, so not having a ‘handmade’ advent calendar isn’t going to be a disaster. In fact, letting that pressure off myself has made me feel so much better. Honestly, as a woman and a mother we have enough bloody guilt
