a colour filled weekend…

This morning I spent 2 hours in the company of an inspiring and colourful lady.  Talking about life, happiness and plants.  Her home a riot of colour and eclecticism.  Beauty found in other peoples cast offs, and displays of family treasures made this home so unique, happy and so so cool.
Upon leaving, I felt like I’d had a few hours in colour therapy.  And woah did I need it.  I’ve never been colour shy, but over the past year I feel I’ve neglected my love of yellow, magenta and blue.  A few years ago I painted my front door yellow, and yet I had forgotten how good it makes me feel.
So today, I’ve made myself promise to seek out colour, bring more into the house, and rejoice in the goodness that it brings.  The ability to lift ones mood.
I think the house above is where I should start. A mix of great furniture and colour that is not too over whelming.  I love the tonal blues, the shaggy rugs, the cane mirrors, the use of particle boarding.  Yep, this one will do me, for now!

So, are you monochrome, muted or a high colour junkie?  What’s your home like?

  • I love this house – those rugs, the plants and mirrors!! I couldn’t live in a beige / monochrome house….

  • And yes, I received Happy Home as my Christmas foot of the bed present – it is color overload! A very fun picture book.

  • When we moved into our home 9 years ago, it was a rental property and so every wall was ugly beige. I proceeded to paint every room a different color and it made me very happy. And it worked in our old farmhouse/cottage style. However, I now find myself moving towards a calmer more unified palette with bright artwork and blankets. Some days I feel like a minimalist, other days I want the cozy cottage. I need multiple small houses to try out different looks!

  • How wonderful!! It’s been one of my resolutions to really embrace some colour into my life, even buying the most beautiful aquamarine diary so I get an instant hit even during mundane tasks! I really recommend ‘Happy Home’ http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1906417903 , it’s been a big help to me! Katie

  • I love Anne’s blog, always so much colour and always such lovely shades, so much to inspire. Our home is a mix of white and grey walls, with plenty of natural wood about and then pops of bright colour.

  • Oh, such sweet words, thank you! Full on colour for me of course, full on pattern and style mix as well, while we’re at it.
…oh, and some very pretty cane mirrors from Bakker Made With Love are coming to the shop very soon :)
With love from the colourful lady…glad you enjoyed it, so did I!

  • All our walls our white, partly due to an inability to chose a paint colour from the enormous choice available but also because I like adding colour with pictures and textiles. It’s pretty unpractical having white walls with a muddy dog and 2 kids though!
